The information in this section is only meant to be a very brief taster for newcomers. The aim of sharing this information is to give you a glimpse into the immense depth of the knowledge base contained within the Human Design System. The study of this part of the knowledge requires detailed information and is only suitable for those ready to jump into a deeper learning of Human Design.
The channels link the centres together. There are 36 of them. At each end of any channel there is a gate. The channels represent a quantum field between the two polarized energies of these gates.
One can understand the function of a each gate when there is no connection to the other end of the channel, but the separate values of the two gates are transformed in the quantum field of the complete channel.

16/48 - The Channel of Talent
The 16th gate is the Gate of Skills. The 48th gate is the Gate of Depth. So people living a 'not-self' life spend their life trying to gather the skills of the 16, instead of waiting to meet people with the 16th gate who appreciate their depth and to whom the skills are natural. Likewise those with the 16 fixed in their chart go through life trying to find and develop depth – by reading books, going to lectures and so on. They should instead wait for depth to find them.
When both gates are defined in a chart however, the channel is complete and consequently activates the Centres at each end. In the case of the 16/48 the skills and depth fuse together to create a new field of expression, which we call talent.
There are 64 gates in this system. They are shown by the large numbers in the red and black columns in the bodygraph and in the ring of the Mandala - and they correspond to the numbers on the Centres. They also have a direct correlation to the 64 hexagrams of the I Ching.
There are 6 lines. These are the little superscript numbers in both the red and black columns of the bodygraph and the subdivisions of the Gate segments in the mandala wheel.
They also correspond directly to the lines of the hexagrams in the I Ching.
Beneath the lines there is a deeper matrix consisting of colours, tones and bases. An accurate time of birth is needed to be able to apply these to your life.
